Dr. Bashir Olalekan Obasekola is a graduate of faculty of Economics & Law of the Russian People’s Friendship University, Moscow Russia. He holds a PhD in Economics from the RUDN University. Dr. Obasekola is the Director of Economics at the Finance Department of Independent Media (Fashion Press LLC), a Russian high-tech media holding company. Independent Media is one of the biggest and most renowned publishing houses in Russia. Dr. Obasekola was an Adjunct Lecturer at the Department of Finance, Accounting and Statistics of the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia.
Dr. Bashir Obasekola is the current Continental Chairman of the Nigerians In Diaspora Organisation Europe (NIDO-Europe). He has held several positions in NIDOE, where he served meritoriously and passionately. Dr. Bashir Obasekola was the Continental Vice-Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Nigerians In Diaspora Organisation Europe (NIDO Europe). He was also the Chairman of the Russian Chapter of the Nigerians in Diaspora Organization Europe (NIDO-Russia). Dr. Bashir Obasekola is very active amongst Nigerians and African Diaspora in Russia and beyond. He is a member of a number of social and cultural organizations of Nigerians, Africans and Russians. He has participated and represented Nigeria in various national and international conferences in and outside Russia. He is a tireless promoter of Nigeria’s image. He has also held several key offices in different non-governmental Nigerians’ and other foreigners’ organizations in Russia. He was the President of the Union of Nigerian Students in Peoples’ Friendship University. He was the President-General of the Nigerian Community Russia.
He worked with dedication and passion to nurture the organization to a level of acceptance by many Nigerians and recognition by the local institutions and authorities. He was a member of the Governing Board of Federal Association of Foreign Migrants in Russia, where he also served as the Chairman of the Youth Affairs Committee. Dr Obasekola is a dedicated volunteer and philanthropist, who has given generously of his time, expertise, and financial resources to impact on lives of individuals in need.
He is a role model to many Nigerians for his simplicity, accessibility and exceeding humility. Dr. Obasekola is a recipient of several honors and appreciations from different institutions including the Nigerian Embassy in Moscow and Nigerian and Russian organizations for his selfless service and contributions to the development and unity of the community of Nigerians in Russia. Dr Obaseko features in most Russian national television channels to discuss Nigeria contemporary issues.
Dr Obasekola was listed by NIDO-Europe on the Hall of Fame of 100 most renowned, supportive and patriotic Nigerians living in Europe and has also been honoured by NIDCOM.
